Chess Club Caïssa-Eenhoorn from Hoorn is organizing this weekend tournament together with Tabor College Oscar Romero. The tournament is being organized for the ninth time and the results will be submitted to the FIDE rating processing.

Venue

The tournament will be played in the auditorium of the Oscar Romero location in the weekend from Friday, August 22 to Sunday, August 24, 2025. The address of the school is Bouwsteen 1, 1625 PD in Hoorn (on the corner of Westerblok and Blokmergouw, behind farm restaurant De Nadorst).

Tournament information and prizes

Registration: Friday, August 22: between 12:30 PM and 1:15 PM in the Oscar Romero auditorium (room opens at 12:30 PM). If a bye is included in round 1, you must register on Friday evening before the start of round 2.

Six rounds of Swiss are played:

Friday August 22; first round: 2 p.m., second round: 7:30 p.m

Saturday August 23; third round: 10:00 am (room opens: 9:30 am), fourth round: 3:00 pm 

Sunday August 24; fifth round: 10:00 am (door opens: 9:30 am), and sixth round: 3:00 pm. After the last game, the awards ceremony will take place.

The pace of play is 90 minutes per player per game with an increment of 30 seconds per move. Game notation is mandatory up to and including the last move in the game. A 'bye' can be used once and only up to and including the fourth round, which is awarded ½ point.

The game is played in three or four groups, depending on the number of participants.

There is a maximum of 200 participants.

Division into groups is done by the organization, based on the ratings of the participants, in such a way that there is sufficient rating spread and groups of approximately equal size are created. There will be some overlap between the groups. A preference for a specific group can be indicated upon registration.

Three cash prizes as well as rating prizes are available in each of the playing groups. The first prize in group A is guaranteed €800.

All results are passed on to the KNSB and FIDE for rating processing.

Facilities

Coffee, tea, soft drinks, refreshments, various sandwiches and snacks are available during the tournament. It is possible to order a meal for Friday evening by: an order form available at the bar in the analysis room (staff room).

There is ample parking for cars in the school car park and for bicycles on the school grounds. For bus connections to and from Oscar Romero see https://www.connexxion.nl.  Line 132 stops at Oscar Romero. It is a 15-minute walk from Hoorn-Kersenboogerd train station to Oscar Romero.

Oscar Romero is a smoke-free school. Smoking is therefore not permitted in the school and on the school grounds.

Only via this website(see here) until Thursday, August 21, 2025. Registration is only effective if the registration fee is paid at the same time. After registering, you will be redirected to a page where you can pay directly via iDEAL.

Registration fee: €35; young people up to 18 years: € 25. GM and IM do not pay a registration fee.

Tourism in Hoorn and surroundings

If you combine participation in our tournament with a longer stay in Hoorn and the region, we would like to point out the following tourist highlights. Hoorn and the surrounding area also have a lot to offer for a stay with partner or family! 

Hoorn is an old Dutch city that was already an important port in the 'Golden Age' (the Dutch name for the 17th century) and where many beautiful and historic buildings from that period can still be found. Walking through the lively old town and harbor area is an attraction in itself.

Tourist highlights in Hoorn and surroundings:

- The steam tram between Hoorn and Medemblik
- The city beaches of Hoorn and the surrounding area, on the Markermeer
- The old town of Medemblik with Radboud Castle
- The old town of Enkhuizen with the Zuiderzee Museum, including an Outdoor Museum.
- For the little children, the Sprookjeswonderland theme park in Enkhuizen
- Finally, Amsterdam is just over half an hour, by car and by train, away from Hoorn…
